day 12 and going strong

Okay, tonight I went back to flowers. I have an impatient blooming in my dinning room! I can't believe it's still alive, much less blooming. So I drew a picture of it. Here it is.

I should have posted this last night but once again I got too tired. So here's yesterday's. They're studies for some of the paintings I'm beginning.

Okay, tonight I felt like trying a portrait again. I used to draw them all the time and was pretty good. This one's not bad though it has a caricature quality. I'm out of practice, but this was fun. It's just charcoal.

This should have been posted last night, but I grew weary and went to sleep. I decided to further explore this bird/cage concept and study individual components before launching into a full scale piece. Here it is. Back to the chalks.

day # 8

Okay, here's today's piece. I was super busy today and this piece needed alot more time to be properly executed. However, I'm really digging the concept and anticipate similar work in the future.

Day 7..still going

This piece didn't quite turn out the way I envisioned it, but I think the flowing lines around the dancers could be taken to a very intricate level. This time I used water-soluable oil pastels instead of my usual chalk.

Day # 6, new subject matter

I've been reading Secrets of a Fire King and I loved the cover art and decided to use it for this piece. I can't tell you why there is a swallow-style bird across her body, but I felt it was appropriate. For some reason. Here's today's artwork.

Here's the newest installment. Yesterday's flower was better I think. I need a broader range of chalk pastel colors. I thnk it's just missing life. Probably got somethning to do with my lack of lively-ness. Had another client cut back my hours and, on top of that, refuse to give me my pay for today. I'm even more broke  than I thought I was. Something will come through soon. I will try to create a better piece tomorrow.  

Day # 4,...here I go

Hi, here's today's image. It's part of a flower. I now understand why artists draw flowers. There's a simplicity to just creating a map of pretty colors. It relieves alot of pressure and releases a lot of emotion in all that swirling and moving stationary color. I don't have to worry about the concept or if someone will 'get it'. Alls I have to so is concentrate on one object in one moment of time in one place. Nothing else matters in those moments but the movement of the color across the page. It feels great. and this piece turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. See what y'all think.

Day # 3

Still going. This one isn't very good, it's a still life that I broke up into different detailed frames. I like the concept, but this piece is definitely not my best work. I wasn't really feeling it, but then again, that's the whole purpose of this little activity: forcing myself to create everyday no matter my mood. The bottom corner where the two frames of the jewelry box meet up are kinda neat: it creates a heart. Sorry that y'all can't see the entire piece, my scanner is 8"x11" and my drawings are 11"x14". In the future, if the piece is good enough, I will photograph it rather than scanning it in.

Well here is day 2 of my little project. It's another flower looking thing. I based it off of my chicks and hens growing in my flower bed. See what you think.

Hello world. Hope I do this right.

Hello world. I don't have a clue as to what I am doing. But I am obstinate and belligerant, so the world is stuck with me; if you choose to view. I am an artist. I graduated with my BFA from AppState in Studio Art: Painting and Ceramics. That was December 2008. I am currently floundering to be perfectly honest. I keep making art and trying to find a job. I am failing. But I am more stubborn than an oxe, so well, this is where I am at. Blogging. Do not know what I am doing, but gonna do it anyways. I have decided to post a piece of art everyday. This gives me a goal; something to look forward to everyday I wake up. So Here I am and here I go. Most of this work will be drawings and sketches in oils and pastels, but sometimes there will be real ceramics and paintings. Hopefully this will keep me going and provide inspiration for the other pieces I am working on. I know it is not an oringinal idea: hell, that cooking chick ended up with a movie doing something similar. I do not care. I will do this. Here is my first  installment. It is a flower. No particular kind. Just made it up. But here it is.
